To celebrate and reward success at Key Stage 3, the Academy has recently launched a new Merit Initiative. The idea for revamping the existing merit system evolved following discussions with Student Council members and Heads of Year.



To celebrate and reward success at Key Stage 3, the Academy has recently launched a new Merit Initiative.  The idea for revamping the existing merit system evolved following discussions with Student Council members and Heads of Year.  Previously, certificates were given, but now tangible rewards are given to those students who achieve high numbers of merits.

Assistant Principal, Miss Daffurn kicked off the initiative with presentations to each Key Stage 3 assembly and students were pleased to hear that rewards will be back-dated from September 07.   Rewards range from stationery to the coveted 'Queue Buster', up to cinema tickets and vouchers.  (See below for the full list)

How does the system work?

  • Merit totals are to be entered onto CMIS by Personal Tutors either Monday or Tuesday morning at registration.
  • The 'cards' come out on a Thursday in registers.
  • Cards for 25 merits- 100 merits are to be handed in to the cashier on Thursday or Friday at break to receive the items of stationery.
  • If you have 125 merits or more, students should see the relevant Head of Year.

The rewards:
25 merits         - Academy pencil
50 merits         - Academy pen
75 merits         - Pack of coloured pencils
100 merits       - Pack of highlighters
125 merits       - 'Queue Buster'
150 merits       - Two ‘Cineworld’ tickets
200 merits       - £10 High Street/WHSmith vouchers
300 merits       - £15 High Street/WHSmith vouchers
400 merits       - £20 High Street/WHSmith vouchers
