Our Macmillan artists have been very busy this year. The challenges and circumstances of the last eighteen
months have inspired them to be adaptable and even more creative. Our students have had to adopt new practices
and approaches to the work that they have planned and produced. We are very proud to share some of their
outcomes with you.

Key Stage 3
Throughout the year we provide art making opportunities for our younger artists and we have been celebrating
art success at Key Stage 3. Please find a selection of pieces that showcase what can be achieved with
pencil, pen and ink.
Year 10 GCSE Art, craft and design
This year we have worked with The Dorman Museum in order to bring the gallery and handling collection of
insects into the classroom for our Year 10 students to utilise. This has enabled GCSE students to access
and respond to actual artefacts resulting in studies and developments in response to the theme of insect
collections. Work exhibited includes outcomes produced using graphite, digital technology, inks, watercolour,
print making, biro and ceramics. Students are currently working on their final responses for this project,
so watch this space!
Year 11 GCSE Art, craft and design
Students have responded to a vast variety of themes in order to create outcomes documenting their observations,
recording ideas, informing experiments and supporting personal responses. At the start of the course, students
visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) and this has influenced many outcomes. Art teachers have selected a
piece of work to celebrate each student’s achievements; we believe it will give you an insight into the amazing
work they produced. Many of our students are going on to study creative subjects in Post 16 and college.
In addition, Year 11 created some work to celebrate their time here at Macmillan. They have used biro to
celebrate our stunning academy canvas. What a legacy for them to leave behind. Thank you, Year 11 artists.
Year 13 A level Art, craft and design.
Our A level artists have each developed sketchbooks and final pieces based on their personal project themes.
They have incorporated responses from gallery visits which included The National Gallery of Scotland, The
Royal Scottish Academy, The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, The Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, the City
Art Centre and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP). We have curated a series of sketchbook images and examples
of their outcomes. We are very pleased that some of our students are going on to study creative degrees
including Fine and Architecture.
Why not have a go at making some art of your own?
