Post 16 Results Day!

Staff and students at Macmillan Academy have had a lovely morning celebrating the achievements of this years' Year 13 cohort. Having not seen the students since early March it was lovely to catch up with them. The year group have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at the academy; they have been great role models to younger students, they have been dedicated and committed to their studies and have always been ambitious.

Mrs Scott (Head of Post 16) said the following about the year group, "This group of students are very special to me as I have been their head of year both in Year 13 and lower down the school. The way they have conducted themselves in Year 13 and throughout lockdown illustrates the calibre of these students and without doubt they will go on to be just as successful in the careers they choose to pursue. I am so proud of all that they have achieved."

As always, students are going on to a variety of interesting destinations. Some students are choosing to stay close to home whilst others are opting to move away from the area.

Libby Joel has successfully gained a place to study midwifery at Teesside University. Also staying close to home are Mariam Ahmed and Kieran Ikwan McCabe who will both be studying at Newcastle University. Mariam will be studying dentistry and Kieran will be studying business and marketing. Olivia Glover will study primary education at Durham University and Joe Shepherd is also going to Durham although he will be studying computer science. Moving further afield, Billal Hussain is going to Bradford University to study optometry and Isaac Moore will attend Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts to study the management of music, entertainment, theatre and arts.

Further away still, Angelica Akrami will be studying medicine at Cambridge University and Deepak Malhotra will study mathematics at Imperial College London.

Alongside, students going to study at university, several students have gained excellent apprenticeships. This is especially impressive in such a competitive labour market. For example, Faith Hinley has secured an apprenticeship at Bam Nuttall, a civil engineering company.

Mrs Coning (Head of School) stated the following, "we could not be prouder of our Year 13 students. They have handled themselves superbly in what has been a difficult and uncertain time for them. At the academy, we are all proud of what the year group have achieved and we know that they will go on to do amazing things."
