On Friday May 1st 2015 our current Year 11 students celebrated their Leavers' Ball. Each member of Year 11 was invited into a spectacular 'Persian Paradise' to enjoy an evening of entertainment and performance.

On Tuesday 12th May all Year 7 students participated in the 'Race for Life' event in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The event was organised by Stephen Cartmail and his team of Year 12 BTEC Sport students.

In the spirit of healthy eating week, we are encouraging students to swap junk food snacks and drinks for a healthier alternative. The student nutrition action group have created a broadcast as part of the assembly programme.

Four of our most talented mathematicians competed in the UKMT Team Maths Challenge Regional Final. The event was hosted at the Academy with other schools from the North East competing the title of regional winners.

Student Librarian Awards 2015

On Thursday 23rd April, six Macmillan Academy students and their parents had an entertaining evening at the 16th Annual Student Librarian Awards Ceremony at Acklam Grange School in Middlesbrough.

Hockey Leaders

Three Year 9 students officiated at the Middlesbrough primary schools hockey tournament. The girls were selected after excelling at a recent hockey leaders' course. The tournament involved fourteen primary schools.

Bushcraft Adventure

Students recently took part in a bushcraft adventure weekend in the Lake District. As part of the course, the students learned how to safely light a fire, how to purify water and how to cook on a camp fire

On Thursday 23rd April 2015 Macmillan Academy students joined pupils from nine Schools in the culmination of a collaborative project 'Middlesbrough Field of Poppies'.

Last week students took part in a 'Bootcamp' fitness session here at the Academy. The session was led by Jeff Hazell of Physical FX, who put the students through a series of tough exercises.

As part of the national 'change4life' sugar swaps campaign, two tutor groups from Year 7 were treated to a fun smoothie bike workshop, delivered by David from realfoodworks.co.uk.

Fourteen students took part in a Shakespeare Festival at the Acklam Green Centre on the 10th March. This was the culmination of a two-year project working with 6 other schools.

On Saturday 7th March, one of our talented Year 11 dancers took part in a dance workshop with Strictly Come Dancing stars Robin and Kristina culminating in a Samba performance in the evening.

The Academy celebrated World Book Day by participating in a 'Drop Everything and Read' campaign. Students and staff were given the opportunity to complete sustained silent reading every day.

On Thursday the 26th February Year 11 students hosted their annual fundraising fashion show. During the evening the audience was treated to a range of different fashion sections, including formal, dance and multi-cultural wear.

Girls go for Glory at the ESFA National Finals

The Academy's under 12s girls' football team competed in the ESFA National Finals in Derby. They put on an impressive performance, winning their group stage and going through to the semi-finals.

Our Year 7 students have been working on their first tutor group challenge. The students all produced a design which could be carved into a pumpkin coinciding with the Halloween theme.

Robin Hoods Bay 2013

Year 8 geographers visited Robin Hoods Bay on the coastline in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. They learned about the geology of the coast and how this has led to its rapid erosion and weathering.

GCSE Result 2013

70% of Academy students achieved 5A* - C grades including English and Maths. We were delighted with the number of students who achieved the highest grades with there being 100 A*s.

Challenge week involves the tutor groups competing with each other in a series of challenges. Some of these are physical, others intellectual and develop the skills of collaborating and problem solving.
