During the Easter break, 32 students and 4 members of the P.E. staff went to Holland for a football and hockey tour. They left on 7th April and travelled by coach and ferry to Vaulkenberg, where they stayed in the Walrum Hotel.

Spanish Work Experience Trip

Kerry Moore and Hannah Taylor, both Year 13 A2 Spanish students, recently flew from Edinburgh to Madrid and stayed for a week in Segovia, where they had work-placements at local primary schools.

On Thursday 3rd April, a guest speaker from Teesside Positive Action will be coming to the Academy to talk to all Y12 Biology students about AIDS and its transmission, as part of their ‘Health and Disease’ module.

Macmillan Academy Scuba Club (MASC)

This summer, MASC will take its first cohort of students to Malta to learn to scuba dive. Twenty-six students and two members of staff will take their PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Open Water Course.

Year 10 attended the third session of the Durham University STARs programme on 28th February. The programme, consisting of five sessions run over three years, is designed for gifted and talented students in Years 9, 10 and 11.

Year 13 Law and Sociology students attended a conference about life 'Behind Bars' on 11th February. The event, supported by Aimhigher, provided students with the opportunity to speak to released prisoners, a Prison Officer and a Forensic Psychologist.
